Foothills Gymnastics Academy continued its successful spring on May 18-19, competing in the 2019 AAU Southeast Regional Championships in York, S.C.

The opening day of the event saw FGA’s 3 Xcel Bronze gymnasts compete in their first Regional against gymnasts from at least five other states. FGA produced an Xcel Bronze Bar Regional Champion as Genevieve Ard earned a gold medal on the bars with a 9.825, her highest score to date in the event. She also captured third place on beam and fifth place all around.

Grace Baglia finished sixth on vault and seventh th on bars with a 9.425. Virginia Then performed well on beam for second place with a 9.475 as well as sixth on vault and sixth all around.

On the meet’s final day, FGA’s Xcel Silver and Xcel Gold gymnasts competed. Competing in FGA’s Xcel Silver team were Anna-Carlisle Keim, Zina Ishwar, Reeve Carroll and Caity Elledge. Keim won first on bars with a 9.775 and first on floor with a 9.5. Ishwar earned third on beam with 9.55, third on floor with 9.425 and third on bar with a personal high this season of 9.85

Carroll took third on vault with 9.325, first on floor with 9.5 and third all around with 37.85. Elledge brought home four silver medals with a 9.175 on vault, 9.65 on beam, 9.55 on floor and 38.05 all-around.

Competing in FGA’s Xcel Gold team were Hurley Bell, Jessica Sizemore and Eliza Then. Bell brought home five gold medals from her Xcel Gold division. She is the regional champion on vault with a 9.55, bar with a 9.85, beam with 9.475, floor with 9.55 and all-around with a 38.40. In addition, she won the All-American Award for the highest all-around in her session.

Sizemore also earned five gold medals. She is the regional champion on vault with 9.2, bars with 9.8 (a season high for Jessica), beam with 8.825, floor 9.25 and all-around score of 37.025. Then is the Xcel Gold regional champion in her division for bars with 9.825 (a season high for Eliza) and beam with 9.45, as well as earning third on floor with 9.325, fourth on vault with 9.25 and second place all-around with a 37.85.

In addition to their amazing individual accomplishments, FGA’s Xcel Gold team earned the third place in the team competition, a notable accomplishment when competing against larger teams from multiple states.

Finishing out the season, FGA will send six gymnasts to the 2019 AAU National Championships in June in Orlando, Fla.
